(This feature is available in BCSS Deluxe, Diamond and Virtual.)

Using BCSS on a network can create duplicate bar codes if clerks are entering data at the same time. Here's how to attempt to avoid that and how to correct duplicate bar codes.

Avoid Duplicate Bar Codes

If more than one person is entering inventory, have one person use the Batch-Enter function in BCSS and have others enter inventory on spreadsheets (to be imported into BCSS later).

Prior to printing bar-code labels, use the 'Assign Bar Codes' feature in the Inventory Work Area then run 'Remove Duplicate Bar Codes' under Inventory on the Main Menu.

Remove Duplicate Bar Codes

Duplicate bar codes can be removed using the 'Remove-Duplicate-Bar-Codes' function under Inventory on the Main Menu:

  1. In the Inventory Work Area, click on 'Assign Bar Codes' (to assure that a bar code has been assigned to each inventory item).
  2. Click on Inventory on the Main Menu.
  3. Select 'Remove Duplicate Bar Codes'. A list of items with duplicate bar codes will be presented.
  4. Click OK to assign new bar codes and print labels (if desired).
