(This feature is available in BCSS Deluxe, Diamond and Virtual.)
BCSS is compatible with most scanners and has been tested with POS-X Scanners, the Unitech MS210 Bar Code Reader, and the cordless Datalogic M100 scanner.
Scanners are shipped with manuals which explain how to prepare scanners for use.
Please refer to Troubleshooting if a scanner isn't working.
Connecting Scanners to PC's
Scanners are usually connected to the PC using a USB (Uniform Serial Bus) cable. (Scanners can be connected with a keyboard wedge when using a wireless keyboard. Older technology utilized serial ports which often required drivers and activation in CMOS setup.)
Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 should recognize and accept scanners when they are connected via USB.
Scanner Settings
BCSS reads 7-digit (UPC-E) and 11-digit (UPC-A) bar codes. When setting up the scanner, scan these bar codes for UPC-E or UPC-A:

Some bar codes may have 12 digits with the 12th digit being a 'check digit'. BCSS treats 12-digit codes as 'invalid'.
When setting up the scanner, scan the code below to 'turn the check digit off' or 'cut check digit':

Test the Scanner:
If the bar code does not appear in Notepad, try another cable, another USB port and/or try another bar code. See the scanner manual for scanner setup and configuration. If there's still a problem, contact the provider of the scanner. It's possible that the scanner is defective.
Test the Scanner with BCSS:

The bar code should appear in the bar-code box and the item scanned should appear as a line entry.
If the scan did not work, open Notepad and scan the item again. If the bar code appears in Notepad, the scanner is working. Please contact support (or the provider of the scanner) for assistance.
