What Does 'Updating' Mean?

Every software program is a work in progress. Improvements are made. 'Bugs' are fixed. Special situations are addressed. 'Updating' means installing the latest version of the software to obtain the most recent improvements.

If you don't have an Internet connection for the BCSS computer, download the BCSS installation file to a flash drive and install the program on the BCSS computer from the flash drive.

'Updating' is different from 'upgrading'. The latter means to purchase a higher edition of BCSS (Deluxe, Diamond or Virtual) or a higher version of BCSS (like from the original Visual Basic version to the FoxPro version).

Updating BCSS is free, and doing so regularly will keep BCSS fresh on your computer with the latest improvements. Perhaps as often as once per quarter, check the latest updates at http://www.bestconsignmentshopsoftware.com/updates.htm.

Please note that updates are free via email. (Complete instructions are provided for the required procedures.) Personal assistance via phone and remote PC connection are not included in free updates but such assistance is available ($29 with 'no complications' or additional work).

If you would like to have personal assistance for any reason, payment of the may be made online with a credit card at http://www.bestconsignmentshopsoftware.com/bcss-order.htm. Just enter 29 (without a dollar sign) in the field named 'Enter an Amount' and press the Blue Order Button to continue, then send an email letting us know that the payment has been made and include the reason for the submission.

Edition and Version #

The software edition and version appear in the upper left corner in BCSS. In this example the edition is Diamond and the version is 5.1.6170:

To Update Your Program:

If your version number is lower than 5.1.6810:

  1. Backup your data.
  2. Press the Send-Data Button (upper right in BCSS) and wait for confirmation that 69 files have uploaded. (Your ISP may block the upload. If that happens see Send Data to Support.)
  3. Send an email to zipfiles@mm.st along with your name and BCSS edition (Intro, Deluxe, Diamond or Virtual). Put your shop's name in the subject line after 'Update'.
  4. Include a note that you wish to update and have uploaded your files. (In some email programs the message will be entered.)

Please do not add/change data in BCSS until your files are returned to you. (You can look up information, print labels from existing entries, etc. but no new entries should be made and no existing data should be changed.)

  5. Go to the download page and save the appropriate installation file to the Desktop.
  6. When files have been returned to you, run the installation file to uninstall BCSS.
  7. Run the installation file again to reinstall BCSS.
  8. Unzip the file that was sent to you from tech support.
  9. Use the Data-Restore function (under Utilities in BCSS) to restore your data from the unzipped folder.
  10. Restart BCSS. The new update will have been applied. If you were experiencing a difficulty prior to the update, check to see that the problem has been resolved.

If it has not been resolved, zip your last data file and send it to zipfiles@mm.st along with your name, shop name, BCSS edition (Intro, Deluxe, Diamond or Virtual) the error message(s) (if any) and the actions that produce the error. Please be specific. Tech support will return your files with corrections. Please do not use BCSS until your files are returned to you.
