Cash Drawer

(Available in Diamond and 24karat)

A Cash Register is different from a Cash Drawer.

PPSS support a Cash Drawer.

A Cash Register records sales and provides a printout at the end of the day for balancing the Cash Drawer. All cash registers have a Cash Drawer.

A Cash Drawer is a place to put money. A Cash Drawer can be used without a Cash Register. PPSS uses a computer, a Cash Drawer and a 'Receipt Printer' in place of a Cash Register.

Cash Drawers Can Coordinate with Receipt Printers.

A Receipt Printer prints a 3"-wide receipt showing the details of the sale.

PPSS has been configured for POS-X receipt printers and the XCHD cash drawer, as well as Logic Controls' CR3000E Cash Drawer and Epson's TM-U220 Receipt Printer. (Other drawers and printers may work with PPSS. The easiest way to find out if other hardware is compatible is to choose the printer in PPSS Program Setup (Printers) and attempt to print a sales receipt.)

The receipt printer attaches to the PC and the cash drawer attaches to the printer. When the receipt is printed, the cash drawer is auto-opened. The drawer may also be opened by pressing F12. (The POS-X cash drawer can connect directly to the PC with a cable adapter.)

The drawer key lock has 3 positions. For normal operation the key lock should be in the middle position.

POS-X XCHD Heavy-Duty Cash Drawer ($119)

The Heavy Duty XCHD Series printer-driven cash drawer attaches to the receipt printer. It conveniently opens when a sales receipt is printed (or when the F12 key is pressed in PPSS). It has a locking drawer for storing money securely. Having a cash drawer makes a better impression on customers.

The Logic CR3000E Cash Drawer ($129)

The CR3000E has a footprint of only 15.7 x 16.1 x 3.3 inches and has an internal cash tray that rivals much larger drawers through efficient use of internal space. Five-bill and six-coin compartments can be easily adjusted. Precision-machined parts and ball bearings guides assure wobble-free drawer movement. All drawers have contemporary styling, a large media slot, three-position key lock and no exposed screws for extra security.

Troubleshooting the Cash Drawer

Cash Drawer Won't Open When Receipt Prints

Is the cash drawer connected to the receipt printer (or to the PC with a special cable) and turned on?

Place the key position on the drawer in the middle position.

Press F12 in PPSS to see that the drawer will open without printing a receipt. (Function keys don't work properly with Acer computers.)

Make sure the cable connecting the drawer to the printer is not defective. Test it with another piece of equipment.

Check Receipt Printer Settings for Cash-Drawer Options:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Printers and right click on the printer.
  2. Select Printing Preferences (or something similar) then Document Settings.
  3. Click on Cash Drawer.
  4. Set both Cash-Drawer options to Open after printing.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Right click on the printer (in Control Panel > Printers) and select Properties.
  7. Press Print Test Page.

If the drawer still won't open when a receipt is printed, see the printer manual for reinstalling the printer driver.
